What do you think helped you the most to make a career as a woman? What is the biggest factor that has helped you be successful?:

I am also a Registered Nurse. I worked in the healthcare field for approximately 35 years but I have since left the profession to be full time on the farm. I believe having a career as an RN has been my biggest factor to being successful even though I am no longer working in the field I still use my skills to care for my animals, crops, garden etc. It is a nurturing lifestyle.

As a female leader, what has been the most significant barrier in your career?:

I would say having the strength. It can be difficult for us as females lifting very heavy items. Even pulling calves is difficult as a female. We just don’t have the strength in our wrists to get calves turned at times.

What mistakes have you made along the way and what did you learn from them?:

Making mistakes is apart of life. It’s part of being who we are : Human. Having animals requires a watchful eye and attention to detail. And above all else KNOW YOUR ANIMALS.

Do you or did you have a woman leader as a mentor or are there specific women who inspired you and why?:

No I don’t or didn’t have any mentors.

You are a busy woman. What do you do to relax and maintain good mental health?:

Simply being involved in agriculture is relaxing for me. I can spend countless days and hours with my livestock and not truly feel fatigued. It is a much different feeling than practicing as an RN where mental fatigue was debilitating. I do however enjoy gardening, sewing, crochet, knitting, machine embroidery and logo designing.
